My First Love...
Cambodia was my first experience in missions and traveling overseas but from the moment I landed in the country the wonderful people and this dynamic place captured my heart. The people received us so warmly. They are a very generous and kind people and often very quiet... except for their music!
Cambodia is most often dry and hot, except for their rainy season which last several months. It is a land of open plains with hardly a hill or mountain in site. It is beautifully landscaped with palm trees and bamboo houses dotting across the planes however it is also a land full of poverty and need.
The people were horrifically oppressed, tortured, and murdered during the 1970's by the Khmer Rouge. You have probably seen the movie "The Killing Fields" which depicts this history. Because of that history now the majority of the population are young and leaving many, many homes without family. There are so many children and young people (yet adults as well) in Cambodia so hungry for love and the truth, peace, and healing that Jesus brings.
Our mission team had the opportunity to work in villages and churches, an orphanage, some manual labor projects, and also a short period training World Vision staff. God truly blessed our time there with people coming to know Christ, baptisms, and healing.
The main religion of Cambodia is Buddhism. The percentage of Christians in the country is very low BUT growing!
Please pray for the people of Cambodia.
Also please pray for more missionaries to Cambodia. It is a land in need of the love of Christ and we as Christians are that supplier! Have you ever thought of a missions trip to Cambodia? What could you do to help?
My first trip to Cambodia was in 2010, and my latest long term serving has been in Cambodia in 2019 and 2020.
